While much more challenging from an operational standpoint than a centralized company setup, the main benefit was that we were able to recruit some of the most skilled and experienced people in the Neverwinter Nights community, wherever they might be. The Team The Darkness over Daggerford team was a virtual one, meaning that its members are located around the world and work over the Internet. The net result was that Darkness over Daggerford became a self-funded project, from beginning to end.

The fact that our premium mod was cancelled while another one was later reinstated and released remained a sore spot for us because both companies agreed the quality level was high. However, when the premium module program at BioWare was cancelled in May 2006, so were the developer contracts with the various mod teams. Releasing a commercial premium mod seemed to be a great way to accomplish that. At the time, we were looking for ways to promote our new development company and to bring RPG development to Vancouver. World+map The origins of Ossian doing a premium mod began when I discussed the idea with Greg Zeschuk (Joint CEO at BioWare) over dinner back at GDC 2005. The large number of elaborate quests we created is something else that gives Daggerford a very Baldur's Gate feel. So, in developing a world map for Daggerford, we absolutely had to create a world with many charming and treacherous areas, which then needed to be filled in with a lot of exciting side quests. Personally, I'm a huge fan of being able to explore large worlds and coming across intriguing side quests off the critical path of a game.

Passion to do the best job possible and seeing our goal slowly pull together are what kept driving people relentlessly forward.There were certain things that BioWare had never included in the three official releases of the NWN series, either by design or from lack of time, that were enjoyed by practically all Baldur's Gate fans - a world map and a player stronghold. a great amount of passion dominated all the work we did on Daggerford.

Given that I was previously a BioWare producer on the Baldur's Gate series and on Neverwinter, I felt I had some good ideas on how to enhance the Neverwinter experience. Developed by Ossian Studios in Vancouver, Canada, it was originally a BioWare Premium Module, and our goal was to make it the biggest and best premium mod BioWare had ever released. YES NO Darkness over Daggerford is a Neverwinter Nights module that attempts to bring some of the flavour from Baldur's Gate into Neverwinter. We asked Alan Miranda to tell us about the project. Upon release, Darkness over Daggerford achieved exceptional popularity within our Neverwinter Vault community, and continues to draw highly complimentary reactions. Also worth mentioning are a customizable player stronghold with associated quests, and many more new elements like three tilesets, over 100 placeable items and five musical tracks. Another notable feature is a new world map system designed to facilitate exploration and to provide random encounters, while a custom spawning and leveling system for creatures aims to make sure the game provides a reasonable challenge at all times.

It then takes them through what's described as a classic D&D adventure with a Baldur's Gate feel and almost 200,000 words of dialogue. The single-player module begins with characters at level 8, which means they have a fair assortment of abilities right away. While many citizens of the region consider the little community to be of no real significance, there are certain others who regard it in a very different manner. The small town named in the title lies between the cities of Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate, close to a number of areas filled with assorted mysteries and dangers. It takes place within Dungeons & Dragons popular Forgotten Realms campaign world. The underlying premise reflects the experience of the team leader, veteran developer Alan Miranda, whose previous credits include working on both the award-winning base property and the celebrated Baldur's Gate series.
